Getting Started in Illegal Soccer

Your first session in Illegal Soccer is simpler than the item lists make it look: join a match, learn what kicking and tackling feel like, and expect to be shot at while you are dribbling. This page sets the order of operations for the first five minutes and points you at the page that answers each next question.

§Your first five minutes#

One round, one intention: learn the ball, not the meta.

Join through the official experience page so you are in the current build, then accept the first match you are given. Do not spend your first round hunting items, testing tools or chasing a specific position. Your only goal is to find out how the ball responds when you kick it, how long you have before somebody closes you down, and how the space around you moves.

Expect to lose the ball a lot, and expect to be shot at while you have it. The developer's own description treats that as normal play rather than as a mistake, which is a useful thing to internalise early: in this game, keeping possession is a temporary state and not a right.

Repotted's official trailer shows a player striking the ball during a match.
StepWhat to doWhat you are learning
1. JoinOpen the official experience page and press play; take the first match offered. How a server fills and where the current build lives.
2. Play one roundStay in for a full round and kick the ball when you can, without hunting items. How the ball behaves on contact and how fast players close you down.
3. Read your inputsOpen the in-experience settings and read the control surface your client uses. The only authoritative list for your device and build.
4. Pick one habitChoose one item from the practise list below and take only that into the next round.Improvement here is a habit, not a stat.

§What the game is, in one paragraph#

The short version, taken only from the developer's own listing.

Illegal Soccer is a free Roblox experience created by the studio group Repotted and classified under Sports and Racing. The developer describes a football match with guns, grappling hooks and jetpacks, where kicking, tackling, fighting, explosions and oil spills are ordinary and where there are no referees. A server holds up to eight players, and the experience was created in May 2026 and is actively updated.

§Which device should you play on?#

Whatever you already have, with one caveat about input surfaces.

The official listing makes the experience available across the platform's clients on Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, Xbox, PlayStation and Meta Quest. That is a statement about availability, not about parity: the control surface differs by device, and input mapping is not documented by the developer for any of them.

So the practical advice is to start on the device you already play Roblox on, and to treat your own client's settings as the authoritative description of your controls. The controls page explains where to look and what is worth changing first.

§What will happen to you, in the developer's own words#

Expectation-setting, using only the gameplay nouns the developer has published.

  • You will be kicked and tackled. The developer lists both as ordinary parts of play.
  • You will be shot at, including while you are dribbling. The developer's own description lists this as a con of the game.
  • You can slip on another player's oil spill. That hazard is first-party, so it is worth knowing before it happens to you.
  • Nobody is going to stop it for you. The developer states that there are no referees.

§Three things to practise first#

Practise in this order, because each one makes the next one easier.

  • Move with the ball while looking up. Being able to travel with the ball without staring at it is the difference between a pass and a giveaway.
  • Shoot earlier than feels comfortable. Chances in a small server close quickly, and a shot that goes wide is usually better than a tackle that removes the ball.
  • Leave a bad position. If you are surrounded and the ball is gone, moving into space is worth more than fighting for a ball you cannot keep.

Three pages, in the order a new player needs them.

§What we cannot confirm about your first session#

The gaps a new player hits first, stated rather than guessed.

  • Whether the experience includes a tutorial. No first-party source describes one, and community material does not agree.
  • Any control mapping, on any device. The developer publishes no input documentation.
  • The item roster beyond guns, grappling hooks and jetpacks, and any stat or rarity attached to an item.
  • Match length, round structure and scoring values. None of these is described by a first-party source.

§FAQ#

How do I start playing Illegal Soccer?

Open the official experience page on the platform and press play. The experience is free, so there is nothing to buy first. Join the first match you are offered and spend the round learning the ball.

Which devices can run it?

The official listing covers the platform clients on Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, Xbox, PlayStation and Meta Quest. Availability is platform-wide, but the control surface differs between them.

How many players are in a match?

Up to eight per server, which is the official maximum. In practice a small server means space is scarce and every decision happens quickly.

Do I need to know football?

No, and knowing it will only help a little. The parts of this game that decide matches are the ones football does not have: tools, hazards and the fact that nobody intervenes on your behalf.

What should I learn first?

Learn to move with the ball, then learn to shoot earlier than feels natural. Technique pages such as curving and volleying matter more once those two habits exist.

Is there a tutorial?

No first-party source describes one, so we do not claim there is. Treat your first match as the tutorial and use the pages linked above to fill in what it does not teach.
